The Stutz Motor Company declared the regular quarte I ferred stu 16 to stock of ree: y dividend of § Oct. Zz dividend | 1 to stocy of WALL STREET For the first time in many weeks the stock market to-day displayed a partial disregard of money conditions. In apite of the fact that the call rate was run up to nine per cent, before the close yesterday, the opening prices of stocks to-day weré gener- ally higher and in some instances gains extended to. as much as two points, Considerable bullish fervor was exhibited, and judging by com- ment heard in brokerage houses, it wag the concensus of trading opinion that the market bad at last definitely turned the corner and that the next broad trend will be upward. The official statement of the Brit- ish Foreign Office that hostilities on the Russian-Polish frontier cannot be expected to end until sit weeks hence, at least, failed to diminish bullish enthusiasm. Neither did a stiffening of money rates materially affect the course of market prices. The renewal rate for call funds was 8 per cent., or one per cent, higher than yesterday, which was to have been expected in view of the market's reeent comparative activity and strength, but the higher rate failed to induce liquidation or professional selling. It caused hesi- tancy in certain parts of the indus- trial list, particularly jn stock of com~- panies that are known to be carrying large inventories and that are having difficulty in financing their require- ments, but the steel, equipment, rail- road and oil shares continued to give a good account of themselves. It was suggested in financial quar- ters to-day that monetary conditions are nat unlikely to be made an issue in the Presidential campaign. A prom- inent Broadway house received a wire from @ Washington correspondent, who stated in emphatic terms that the Federal Reserve Bank officials are closely watching the course of the New York money market, and that should rates be unduly ad- vanced it will be accepted as mean- ing that a conspiracy is on foot to defeat Cox, and that the bank's of- ficials will adopt summary measures to defeat this alleged conspiracy, Improved speculative sentiment was also noted in the commodity mar- kets.
