ee ee i ee eet ae ; H eee ee en | ei eee) * Wat ITHE NEW PLAYS “Breakfast in Bed” A.Florence Moore Picnic ' BY CHARLES DARNTON N ACCORDANCE with his recent announcement that he would produce mo more bedroom farces, Al W>ods last night produced “Breakfast in Bed,” ‘with Florence Moore tn, unf@ler and around the bed. As a movie actress Phe was never still, "Twas a wild and wakeful night at the Eltinge. © Quite harmless fun, however, marked the riotous proceedings. There denied more indelicatessen than a snake-dance performed by the restive e with the aid of a string of sausages, She was supposed to eat ‘em bed, but she preferred to get up and dance them around and around and until the poor things looked quite worn out. - Miss Moore remained fresh—very fresh—in spite of a hard night at a dall and bone-dry champagne. She arose as Cleopatra, for she had fen to take off her costume when she crawled under the covers. It did occur to her until the morning after that she was in a man’s apartment. she recalled that she and Jack had thrown dice for the bed and that ho had turned up double sixes. And yet there are persons who believe that ‘@vil lies in a dice-box! e Everything would have been lovely if the soldier who was to marry Emily hadn't returned unexpectedly from Washington and found his careless in Jack’s rooms, He instantly conceived one of the most devilish ts known to farce, If he had been the villain of a melodrama he couldn't done a meaner thing. What.did he do? Well, this is what he did: He Emily and Jack into a supposed movie wedding and then told ‘em they been married by an honest-to-goodness justice of the peace. Jack de- Blared he had been betrayed—he did not hesitate to use the word—and Emily ‘was s0 peeved she didn't know what to do until she got her beloved Benny her apartment. Then it occurred to her and Jack that it would be a nice to have her “compromised” by the man she wanted to marry, @0 Jack @ pistol and compelled Benny to get out of his olothes and into pajamas. is enough to say that this outrageous plot worked like a charm. Willard and Hilliard Booth took it from a French farce and put @ lot of fun yo it. Miss Moore was strenuously comical and ceaselessly energetic, working face, her arms and her legs ali at the same time, Once by way of mo- entury relaxation she fell off a chair, She gave herself bodily to burlesque What becarie tediou®at times, yet she never failed to rouse hearty laughter— after all that was her only aim. Nobody else tried to be funny, not even Deming, who knows how, and the result was that “Breakfast in Bed” took the form of a Florence Moore picnic.
