J Al Galli-Curei As Violetta; | Farraras Zaza By Sylvester Rawling. MELITA GALLI-CURCI sang Violetta in “La Traviata” at! the Lexington Theatre last night. It was her first appearance here this season and the house was| crowded to capacity. That she sang off the pitch put no damper upon} the enthusiasm, She was applauded vehemently from start to finish and called before the curtain many times, Its a pity that she hasn't overcome this fault, for her voice is of lovely avality, ber art is gracious, and her personal appeal is unmistakable. _¢ Marcella Sembrich was in a box ‘next to the stage. Perhaps, the pres- ence of that past mistress of the art of singing and former impersonator wt Violetta was disconcerting to me. Galti-Curct; perhaps she was \ | Qupeet by the weather, or perhaps the Jndifferent support of her associates affected her. The fact remains that she was less brilliant than usual. Alemmndro Doloi, who was Alfredo, not infrequently sang flat, and his impersonation lacked distinction, Al- fred Maguenat, who took the place of (Hacomo Rimini, usually a good ar- tist, was not happily cast as Alfredo's father. Some attractive dancing was done by Andreas Vavley and Miles. Ludmila and Ledowa, Mr. de Angelis conducted. Geraldine Farrar’s Zaza is the hit of the opera season. A second per- formance of Leoncavallo's opera at the Metropolitan Opera House last night drew a capacity audience that applauded her vociferously. She was n fine voice and spirits and was ably mupported by Crimi, Amato, Malates- ta, Bada, Ananian and the rest of the original cast, Mr. Moranzoni oon- ducting. “Ruddigore™ ted on a third week at the Park Theatre last night before a crowded and enthusiastic house, The fascinating Gilbert and Sullivan opera is well cast, well sung and well acted. Acoltan Hall was a sa busy place yes- y. At noon, Maurice Dambois, Prokofieff, pianist, afternoon Pasquale 1 piano recital. In the evening Richard Buhlig gave the fifth in his series of piano recitals of the classics. There was also a recital at the Princess Theatre yes- terday afternoon by Lucile Delcourt, harpist. —_ 5,000 PETITION FOR 7-CENT FARE Pleas of Staten Island Car Patrons to Be Presented to U. S.
