Voluntarily Appeared Before Swann and Gave Information. ‘The World on Friday last told of a complaint made fo Assistant District Attorney Dooling by Dr. Johannes Meyer of Brooklyn against Charles W. Galvin & Co, brokers at No, 60 Broad Street, and in this connection it wag stated that the offices of the firm had been raided and their papers seized by detectives from the District Attorney's office, This was an error, which The World has ‘been requested by Galvin & Co. to correct. There was no rald and members of the firm voluntarily pro- duced their papers at the request of Mr. Dooling. The complaint grew out of a deal between Dr, Meyer and 8. J, Smith, a salesman for Galvin & Co. The amount involved was $100, Smith claimed Dr. Meyer put up $50 in thrift stamps and a $60 Liberty bond as collateral for the purchase of stock and that hé gave Dr, Meyer a receipt for $100, with the understanding that Dr. Meyer was to come back the next day with $100 in cash and exchange it for the collateral, Dr. Meyer claimed he later did give Smith the $100 cash in exchange for the collateral, Smith denied this, claiming that at their second inter- view the doctor in some manner gained possession of the collateral and left, without giving up the $100 cash and with Smith's original re- celpt for $100 still in his possession. Dr. Meyer demanded of Galvin and Company the return of the $100 he claimed to have given their salesman but declined to produce Smith's re- ceipt. The firm wrote him a letter asking him to submit proof and promising to make reparation if it was found they were indebted to him. Dr, Meyer's next step was to com- plain to Assistant District Attorney Dooling. The latter sent a detective with a “request” subpoena to the of- fice of Galvin and Company and Sec- -|retary Irwin Bloom of the firm re- turned with the detectiye to the Dis- trict Attorneys office, Later the firm's bjooks of record were volun+ tarily sent there Charles W, Gal- vin and Salesman Smith called on Mr. Dooling in response to a telephone invitation, ‘The Meyer eomplaint was finally sifted down to a question \of veracity Salesman $100, between Dr. Moyer and Smith as to which got the evidence, onal and d that if Smith got th The I ind Jury decide between the sales. and Dr, “sHoT if BELA KU nin of Hangarian Soviet Dictator Arrested.
