Two hundred and forty disputes |between landlord and tenant ‘were |heard by Justice Robitzek in the |Bronx Municipal Court to-day. At the conclusion of the hearings the Justice allowed 100 eviction warrants but in each instance provided that none shall be evicted before Monday. Tenants complained of raises of $2, $3 and $6 a month. While these cases were being heard complaints continued to come into the office of Mayor's Committee, headed by Nathan Hirsch. Included in these complaints were reported boosts in rent of $10, $15 and $26. Justice Robitzek to-day heard evi- dence in the case of the tenants against Mrs, Anna Moll, No. 198 Brown Place. At a hearing last Monday Mrs. Moll was characterized as “one of the worst profiteers,” but to-day she showed that her lease on the building 5 increased $2,500. She had paid $9,000 and the tenants argued that the Increases she had proposed would run her income from the buliding up to $15,000. Her attor- ney, Julius Tobias, termed the ten- ants as “Bolsbeviki” and said that Mrs, Moll wished to rid the building of them, Counsel on each side will present further ‘briefs in the case Saturday . He was Samuel Friedman of the 22th Infantry, who said that prior to hig going to war his mother paid $22 @ month, When he returned in May her rent was $28 and notice was given of an increase in June to $31. This she deciined to pay. The other tenants in the Wuilding joined the Friedmans in their protest. Justice Robitsek reserved decision. Among the complaints received by the Mayor's Committee was that of « woman who said that, whereas she had been paying a monthly rental of $45.60 fohan apartment in Halcyon Hall, No. 408 West 160th Street, she, together with other tenants, has re- ceived word to pay $70 a month. The woman complained that the latest boost in her rent meant an increase in the last few months of more than 100 per cent. dn behalf of fifteen families living in No, 11 West 4th Gtreet, a writer said that, on June 1, the tenants were raised $10 and $15 each, and on top if this increase came a no- tice a day or so ago that on July 1 there would be another $10 increase. An “unwarranted increase, averag- ing $26 per tenant,” was reported by tenants of the Elise Apartments, N 200 West 111th Street. One of the. most pitiful letters re- ceived by the Mayor was from Brooklyn, where a widow, with two children,’ complained that her new landlord, without any reason what- ever, had given her two weeks notice to get out of the house, She stated an effort to find other rooms for her family and that her landlord was obdurate, WITH $100,000 IN TRUST. His estate was left to his widow, who upon her death passed the fortune torship of the proletariat of this country.” The witness declared that the in- vestigation made by the American Federation of Labor showed it was on to her daughter. While Miss Leu was attending Bryn Mavtr sho met Ludlam and married hi mover the ob- jection of her guardian, Part of the estate left by her mother was placed in trust in the Connecticut Trust and Safe Deposit Company of Hartford, Conn. Last November Mrs. Ludlam ‘brought suit to compel the trustees to turn over to her and tho children the principal of the trust fund. Justice Gavegan ordered the transfer to be made, but nothing has been done in that direction. “Unless this fund is turned over at once,” Attorney H. M. Hitchinis, rep resenting Mrs, Ludlam, told the court to-day, “Mrs. Ludlam and her family will be obliged to vacate the premises they now occupy.
