WILSON IS ASKED FOR SAFE CONDUCT OF IH ENVOYS Secretary Lansing Submits Letters From Representatives of U. S. Irish Societies. PARIS, May 19.—Secretary Lansing to-day submitted to President Wilson the following letter from Frank Walsh, Edward Dunne and Michaei Ryan, representatives of Irish socie- ties in America: “In behalf of the Irish race con- vention at Philadelphia, Feb. 22, ‘We very respectfully request your €00d offices to procure from the PRE ee (Ds sar from Dublin to Paris and return for Edwin De Valera, Arthur Griffith and Count Plunkett, elect~ ed representatives of the people of Ireland, so that they may in person present the claims of Ire- land for international recognition as a repubdlig to the peace con- ‘ ference.” “Ireland will have her independence unless England succeeds in killing the next three generations,” Walsh said in an interview to-day. “No person able to visit Ireland and meet the men who are now shaping her history can do so without being convinced there is only one solution of the six-hun- dred-year-old problem—that is, to give the Irish their freedom. They are through talking home rule in Ireland. Ireland is organized. Make no mis- take about that.
