During digestion certain kinds of food containing pro- teins, such as meat, egg white, milk casein, wheat filuten, etc., are split into many dilferent substances, Some of these the body uses to rebuild damaged or dead tissues; some, however, are not only useless and harm- ful butin some cases actually oisonous. Regular, thorough bowel evacuation gets rid of the latter. Constipation permits stagna- tion and absorption of these poisons into the blood, with injury to the whole body. Taking castor oil, pills, salts, mineral waters, etc.,in order to force the bowels to move does not—cannot cure con- stipation—but makes it worse. On the other hand Nujol overcomes constipation and brings about the habit of easy, thorough bowel evac- uation at regular intervals, because Nujol is not a drug, does not act like any drug. Nujol brings about a return to Nature’s methods of sup- plying necessary lubrication of the bowel contents, by facilitating intestinal muscu- lar action, by absorbing poi- sonous matter, and thus se+ curing necessary cleansing of the intestinal canal and protection of the defensive properties of the blood itself. Nujol has no deleterious after effects, produces no bad habits, makes the bowels regular as clockwork. Nojol is efficient at any age under any conditions—is satisfactory and safe. How and Why Nujol over- comes constipation is de- scribed in en interesting and authoritative booklet, “Thirty Feet of Danger” {ree on request. And so, dear children, we address this first thought to every little boy and girl in this great city. If you like it, little ones, show it to your father and mother, You must know, then, that hundreds of thousands of children, bright and beautiful children like your- selves, have been frightfully neglected by those who should have provided for them. These children are called foundlings. We shall not trouble you with details. Let it be enough to state here that they are, through no fault of theirs, unable, thousands of them, to say: “that’s my father; here's my mother.” Sometimes they are found deserted on doorsteps, at the entrance to public places, and in church pew It often happens that the mother, abandoned by her husband, turns her babe over to the mothering care of good nuns, like those at the New York Foundling Hospital. HESE good nuns have cared for more than 70,000 little foundlings. Most of them have grown up to be fine men and women; many of them have fought and died for this land of ours. And now these good nuns are,---well, without wasting anything, they have run into debt doing this work of charity. ‘They need money at once to pay the grocer and the milkman and the butcher and others. They ask nothing for themselves, not even the coupon from your father’s Liberty Bond. Big hearted men and women have said to the nuns: Don’t worry. You need $250 000 to pay all of your debts and give you a new start. We'll try to raise it for you. New York never forgets the call of the little ones at its own door. HILDREN, say to your mother and father: “Let's begin now in all earnestness. This is a home- charity. Let’s answer the call of the good women who have worked for half a century for the foundling babies.” Tell them to, Send ten cents, a dollar, five dollars, a hundred dollars, a thousand dollars, thrift stamps, the coupon off their Liberty Loan bonds, the bond itself, -any- thing that their kindness may suggest to help make a good citizen of a foundling. TRY IT THIS WAY NOW Mr. George G. Haven, Treasurer, N. Y. Foundling Hospital Campaign Fifth Avenue Bank, Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, New York City. Dear Mr. Haven: I am most happy indeed to make this offering (AMOUNT esse ....) to help the good nuns pay their bills and encourage a work of charity at our own door. Yours for God’s Little Ones, e Foundin
