} Rough Towel Exercises For Cool Fall Mornings By Pauline Furlong hing Co, (The New York Evening Workt ) Copyright, 1018, by The Press Publ _ Abdominal Exercise Aids Health fey < NOTHER abdominal exercise is shown to-day. It also aids in lend- ing balance and poise. Stand with heels together, towel resting at arm's length across front of body. Raise the right leg, bending at tie knee, and pull hard on the ends of towel while you count ten slowly, Then resume starting position, | raise the left leg and proceed with the exercise. Tais | is also a stretching exercise, which affects muscles of | back, sides and arms. Stretching and yawning are nature's own exercises, | and are used by babies and animals, just as grown-ups | practise more advanced ones. 1 am wondering how many of my readers are walking these beautiful fall days. Many times I have outlined the benefits to be "derived from this economical exercise in the fresh air and sunshine. Mus- cles and limbs may be kept elastic and free from rheumatic pains and dodily aches as well as conjagious dis avoided through a daily walk. Many women claim that they obtain all the exercise needed to keep the body in trim through daily tasks at home or at business. This is a very wrong impression, because all business, whether it be running a home or an office, causes necessavily more or less mental and nerve strain. Neither are all the different muscles brought into play in any household or business, and for this reason indulgence in outdoor mes, or restful reading, music, card games or pleasant conversation, avoiding shop, are all necessary to divert and rest body and mind after working hours, Have a hobby and follow it. I know one woman who studies rhetoric at night, another who teacaes swimming for dive nd still another who teaches talented girls, free of charge, the technique of the drama.
