Coal Is Only Thing Lacking, | Says Expert, for‘Buy Early’ and ‘Coal Week’ Movement) ritth avenue Year’s Supply Cannot and Transportation Be Produced in Month Facilities Are Inade- _ quate, He Declares — Shippers Doing Their Best. By Amedee J. Casey Editor Americat® Coal Journal Written Expressly for the Evening World. “Coal Week,” which 1s echeduled for June 34 to 8th inclusive and which will be Inunched at that time by the Federal Fuel Administration at Wash- ington, would indeed ba a worthy @ause if there was any coal in the vast for the people to buy. Ae the situation now stands the “buy coal arly” movement and “coal week” Will only have the effect of unnec- eesarily alarming the people, without giving them any coal. In certain sections of the west it was necessary to imougurate a move- ment to got the people to buy early, as number of the mines generally ¢losed down during the summer months and it was thought that if these mines could ‘be kept running that the people would secure their coal in the summer time and be pre- pared against a coal famine later on. However, the situation is becoming much changed even in the West. Lack of cars is allowing mines only to run two or three days a week, and then the coal mined ts being taken up at once by industrial users, The Eastern coal situation pre- sents a problem that must be solved before many weeks If the East !s going to receive its coal or take care of its fue] wants next winter. The bituminous mines of Penn-|e syivania, because of lack of trans- @ working only from two eek and since the time e production jin that t of bituminous coal has been lower than for (he same period of the year 1917. There is no question, however, in the minds of many that If the water-days were in shape they could be used to good advantage. a CANADA LIMITS TITLES AFTER THREAT BY PREMIER Borden Ready to Resign as Parlia- ment Endeavors to Abolish All Honors.
