NTA RR SPE SEE TER ERE: meron THE EVENING WORLD, DEMONRUM’S WAKE IN WASHINGTON T0 BE ALIVELY ONE Clubmen Pay for Privilege of Smashing Bar Fix- tures Oct. 31. WASHINGTON, Oct. 26.--A wild} celebration will mark the “wake” of old John Barleycorn in the national capital on the night of Oct. 31, Local olubs have announced that they are sending out Invitations to practically every business man in| ‘Washington to join them on the night that the knell will be sounded over “demon rum.” Those who accept these invitations will pay $5 each. When the hour of 12 o'clock rings forth, it will be a alg- mal for every drinking clubman to turn to and make a general mess of all bars, bar fixtures and everything pertaining to liquor in his respective clubs. The passing of Old Booze in Wash- ington will be @ great and noisy occa- sion. Many of the hotels, restaurants and saloons are reserving tables for that night. The big hotels are so crowded that they will not permit a rally in their dining rooms, but hundreds of #maller places are booking ts and even standing room for the occasion. Crowds will march in the streets, in the barroom districts, and sing drink- tng, songs. cat Of the leading saloons are re- ducing their stocks, so that they will have little left after the Anti-Liquor Law goes into effect on Nov. 1. One anti-Prohibition Congressman, who has a home here, has purchased $600 worth of liquors to store in his cellar. Prices ve been advanced on the best gr: 8 of liquors, and Washing- ton saloon men are making a great final haul An interesting feature of the situa- tion here ia that the police have been warned to look out for expert “boot- Jeggera” an. “blind tigers" that will come from dry cities of the South, where thoy have learned all the tricks of tho underground liquor trade, — PRIGES RANGE HIGHER AT “DIAMOND JIM” SALE $530 Paid for a Bronze by J.
