4 6 ONIPPING OF BABY OF BANKER District Attorney is Respons- ible for Statement—Expect Return of Child To-Day. SPRINGFIELD, Mo, June 6.—With @everal arrests mado in connection with the alleged kidnapping of, four- teen-months-old Lioyd Keet, son of J, H. Keet, wealthy retired banker, Igeal detectives to-day declared the affair was nearing a point of being @olved, Some of the men arrested re declared to be members of promi- nent families. Under the guidance of a man who, @egording to Prosecuting Attorney Paul M. O'Day, has confessed that he is a member of a band which kidnapped. the baby and planned other abductions, that official and four detectives early to-day started for the place whero it was said the baby is held pending the payment 96,000 ransom. Claude Peirsol, Taylor Adams, Mrs. Taylor Adams and the latter's two sons are the others under arrest charged with complicity in the plot, according to the prosecuting attorney. G. A. Clement, a jeweller, and his baby were among those. who were also said by Mr. O'Day to be kid- napped and held for ransom. Guided by the alleged kidnapper, the party in an automobile early to- day drove over the route sald to have been traversed by Keet last Wednes- day night to a point about seven miles from Springfield. There they entered an abandoned house a mile from the main highway and found a baby’s crib and a cot which appeared to have been recently occupied. The discovery that their quarry had flown sent the party in another di- fection, Their destination, however, has not been made public, but fur- ‘ther arrests are expected soon by the police. Since last Wednesday night when the Keot baby was removed from his nursery until now the mother has chung to the belief that her little son will be returned unharmed. A com- munication, said to have been re- ceived by Keet, stated “baby is all right, well taken care of and in the best of health.” At Police Headquarters it was said that before nightfall the baby would be returned and that the actual kid- Bappers would be in custody.
