THE NEW PLAYS “Bosom Friends” By CHARLES DARNTON E may atill be grateful to Lew Fields for the fact that he can make us laugh honestly and heartily. He does this in “Bosom Friends” at the Liberty Theatre by gheor force of his personality, But, like other comedians of his type, Mr. Fields yearns to be taken geriously, David Warfield set an ex-| ample that former associates have tried to follow. But Lew Fields, like » Louis Mann, remains a comedian. Ho fa such @ natural comedian that he seeceeds in giving a humorous touch te “Bosom Friends.” Frank Wardel is so conventional that Qt suggests the so-called comedy~ @rama of bygone days. The extravagance of the play may be reckoned in that one word— “Judas.” Mr. Fields spreads sweetness and) light as the schoolmaster in his scene with the children and laughter in encgunters with a housekeeping sl heart.
