BEFORE LAST Priest Tells of Heroic Deaths, of Two American Women of Te rrible Exposure, SU FFERED. SURVIVORS Prayers $ Said Before Bodies of | Dead Were Cast Into the Sea. By Floyd P. Gibbons. (Copyright, 1917, by the Chicago Tribune.) LONDON, March 1.—The story of the death of Mrs, Hoy and her daugh- ter, victims of the Laconia sinking, was told to me last night by one of the occupants of their lifeboat. This survivor {s Father Dunstan Sargent of Grenada, West Indies, a Catholic priest, returning to England to enter the army as chaplain. “Our boat was No, 8," he said. “We were on the starboard side of the| Laconia—the high side—as she was isting to port. Our boat was one ot the last to be lowered. There were twenty-three of us in it. Mrs. Hoy and her daughter and Miss St- Kost were the only women.
