One was that President Wilbur C. Fisk had not definitely refused to re- instate members of the Brotherhood of Ratlway Trainmen discharged last ‘week, and the other that the motor- men have developed a grievance which, their leaders believe, wil! Justify them In breaking a contract and going out with the trainmen If the differences are not adjusted. It was erroneously reported that President Fisk had agreed to rein- state the discharged employees and recognize the Brotherhood of Rail- way Trainmen, Mr, Fisk dented this As soon as he reached his office, “IT have made no concession of any Corn muffins with a “way -down-South” taste! Sines, Vice President of the trainmen'’s unton, late this afternoon. In the mean- time Mr. Sines wil) have conferred with officers of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and may be in A position to say to Mr. Fisk that if the trainmen strike to enforce thoir demands the motormen will walk out, too. The Hudson and Manhattan Con- pany, through collective bargalaing, entered into a contract with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers two years ago which binds the union motormen of the system until 1919. At the time the agreement was dorse the contract. They were ex- pelled ‘from the Brotherhood, but re- mained at work. Naw they are of- ficers of a company brotherhood em- bracing all classes of employees. The motormen have been told by| high officials of the Railway Brother- | hood that the company, in keeping: these «ix men in its employ, violated | the agreement and that unless they are discharged the motormen will be Justified in striking with the train- men. This is an unexpected turn of af- fairs, as President Fisk had been con. | fident the motormen would live up to! their contract. He had counted on their support in making plans for op- erating the road with new men and such of the old employees as might remain loyal. The New York, Jersey City and Hoboken Police Departments have made all arrangements to guard the stations of the company, but cannot supply policemen foe the trains be- cause the Hudson and Manhattan line is engaged in interstate com- merce. Two policemen have been as- signed to all stations in Manhattan and Jersey City and arrangements have been made to double the guard At 4 o'clock this afternoon, when, ac- cording to rumor, the unton men con- template walking out if they cannot come to an agreement with the com- pany. In case the Hudson and Manhattan unions strike the Brotherhoods on the Pennsylvania Ratlroad will be asked to refuse to handle trains tak- ing passengers from Hudson and Manhattan trains at Manhattan Transfer. An effort will be made to Kd the North River ferry lines also. FAMILY NEAR STARVATION, | FATHER CANNOT BE FOUND Ambulance Call for an Accident Reveals Serious Plight.
