In this play of no Importance Miss Anglin is, first and lust of all, @ woman, The real meaning of this re- vival is the survival of Marguret Anglin. She is one of the few *ell- bred, well-trained actresses of which our stage can boast. nin a play given up largely to Y people who talk far too cleverly to be true to lite, Miss Anglin founds @ note that makes a genuine appeal. This is all the more remark able in view of the fact that she plays that old-fashioned creature of the stage, a woman with a “past.” Life to Wilde meant posing in goclety, and the smaliness of his outlook 1s par- ticularly apparent in this play. Stilt, lit is entertaining to Hsten to the jsmart talk of the old English drawing room even in these days. Bat Mrs. Arbuthnot, with @ talkative son wno | did not inherit his father’s name, be- longs so much to the theatrical past that only an actress of fine instinct and equally fine powers could make her possible, Wilde's witty dialogue keeps the play in the air for an hour or go, and then Mrs. Arbuthnot appears ans @ dramatic figure and tries to keep her son from leaving her to act as the |secretary of Lord Illingworth, who secret the fact that he Is the boy's father, Instantly, in this scene, Mise Anglin makes a sincere appeal ond |clears the alr of epigrams. Sae is theatric only at the end of the second Ulingworth out of the room and she stands, grasping a ohair, with her back to the audience, This attitude is so melodramatic that tt robs the actress of the earlier simplicity she has shown. In every other respect Miss Anglin proves herself to be a most resourceful, sympathetic and in- telligent actress. She makes one feel the heartbreak of mother-love as no other woman on our stage could. It 1s a pity that her final scene with the boy should be marred by having the American girl, who 1s in love with Gerald, take a seat in the hall and listen to the whole story that the mother tells her son, The presence of Hester is in such bad taste that it de- stroys the dramatic value of the vital talk between mother and son. As a producer, Miss Anglin might eastly arrauge this awkward matter so that | the girl comes In just in time to catch the last word or two instead of all that is said, It is rather absurd, too, that Mrs, Arbuthnot should repeat, with a single change, words of Lord Ilingworth that she did not hear by explaining that the gloves left on the table are those of “a man of no im- portance.” Why not take liberties with Wilde just as a matter of com- mon sense, if nothing else? As for her acting, Miss Anglin ts admirable, It 1s beeause she is. so sure of herself, perhaps, that she has made Holbrook Blinn the star of her SEAN NTE ‘What you pay out your good money for is cigarette satisfaction—and you get it in This new cigarette is an expert blend of choice Turkish and choice Domestic tobaccos that creates a delightful mellow- mild-body and a flavor as novel as it is re- Camels are so satisfying, and ealize so quickly that the value is in the cigarettes, that coupons or premiums are neither looked for nor expected | Cameis icave no unpleasant cigaretty after- They will not bite your tongue, will not parch your throat and will not tire your Smoke them liberally without any Prove cur word about Camels by comparing them puff-by-pult with any cigarette at any SA 7 R.
