DEATH OF PHILIP SPEED. | Popular Member of World's Staff Vietim of Bright's Disease. Arrangements are being mado to- @ay for the funeral of Philip Speed, long prominent in metropolitan news| ‘Mr. Speed, who was’ forty-three years old, died last night in the Smith Infirmary, Staten Island. He was a native Kentuckian and began his newspaper work with the Courier Journal, Louisville, After filling im- Dortant posts in New York and Phil- adelphia, he returned to The World, with which he was connected at the time of his death. Mr. Speed lived at No, 166 Davis Avenue, West New Brighton. His widow was Miss May Mason of Vir ginia, Her futher is Judge A. N. Mason of the noted Virginian family of that name, There are two daugh- ters, Miss May Mason und Mis: Jane Ewing Speed. Mr. and Mrs, Georg bers of an old Ken’ of his sisters, Mis died some years ago, was an author of children’s stories. There are three ers, Keats Speed, managing edi- tor of the New York Press, Ewing and Dr. J. 8. Speed of Chester- field, Va. Their mother js living.
