CHICAGO, Nov. 4.—Gus Born, en- sineer of a fast Western mall train out of Chicago, to-day paid back a quart of blood given him recently by George Davenport, head switchman in @ local railroad yard and Born’s rival for the hand of pretty Essie Kneer. Four weeks ago Born was taken {I). The physicians said only blood trans- fusion would save him. They adver- tised. A big, brawny man-—just the kind they wanted—applied, saying he would accept no pay. The man was Davenport. The quart of blood was drawn from Davenport and sent into Born’s veins. The latter recovered. ‘On Saturday Davenport's leg was crushed. He lost much blood. The physicians decided there must be ood transfusion to save Davenport's life, They advertised.
