Pierre Tartoue me Lawson in -° Two Galleries ‘The current exhibition of portraits yi recently executed by Pierre Tartoue, ‘oot | St the Henry Netnnardt Galleries, |contains nineteen examples of this = | artist's work. Twelve of them are in pastel, and the rest are in oils, Two of the oll paintings are from daguer- reotypes, and there, of course, follow {the cramped and somewhat theatri- cal poses of the originals. When M. Tagtoue paints with a free hand the results he secures are, for the most part, very pleasing, espe- cially with bin femimine sitters, why appear lifelike and graceful. Mra. George Doubleday is painted with a biwe corsage that partly re- veais the underiying lace. On her left wrist she wears a simple brace- jlet. The pose is in full face, with speaking blue eyes and brown hair lin wavy masses.
