GOULDS ARE TO QUIT RAILROAD BUSINESS Family Now Owns Only 6,115 Shares in Mo. Pacific and Aban- dons Effort to Save Road. While three committees represent- ing the holders of Missouri Pacific bonds and stocks met in executive seasion this afternoon to take steps toward the financial rehabilitation of the once powerful Gould railroad property, Finley J. Shepard, director of the company and husband of the former Miss Helen Gould, admitted in his office at No. 165 Broadway that the Gould family owns but 6,115 shares out of 830,000 and is practi- cally on the point of retiring from the railroad business. The family has been divided as to icy in the last two years, it is ‘nown, the Shepards alone being anx- fous to retain and build up the prop- erty, which in 1904 was quoted on the street at the high water mark of L At noon to-day the price was 12%. Mrs. Shepard is tho only mem- ber of the family who has steadily held to her stock, and to-day owns 4,418 of the 6,115 shares in the posses- sion of the Goulds. The Gould estate saved the Missour! Pacific from being thrown into the courts last June, when, at the eleventh hour, it met the interest on $26,000,000 worth of three-year notes which had matured. No attempt will be made by the Goulds to meet these notes next June, it was stated to-day. SSeS Dining Room Special Hasti ang ee TABLE, « 6x48 Top pele “e522. 5 0 B.G.Latimer & Sons Co.
