BOMB IS EXPLODED TO SCARE WITNESS; SECOND ONE FIRED Friends of Seer Iiusband’s Slayer ‘9 Intimidate Mr. —_——e Two bomb explosions kept the po- Nee of the east side busy shortly after midnight to-day, and although every- body around Fortieth Street and Firat Avenue was aroused by one of them, it was almost an hour before it @ould be discovered where it went off. This explosion was heard as far south as Bellevue Hospital, and po- lice reserves and Inspector Owen Eagan of the Bureau of Combustibles made a tour of the Fortléth Street district. Finally Ignagio Millazio, a boy living at No, 697 First Avenue, LimeCombats Tubercalosis “It te difficult to escape the conviction thet Ime starvation and lime sesimilation fare the real lesucs behind the masks of valnerability and resistance im tubercalo- ole,” writes Ira Van Gleson, M. Search was made of the bullding and finally on the top floor they found @ hole in the ceiling of a vacant apartment. ploded on the roof and had torn through and demolished all the pias- | ter, but did no other damage. According to the police, on Nov. 4 last Ignazio Millazio, father of the boy who gave the bomb tip this morn- ing, was shot and killed in East For- tieth Street. Vincent De Michell, who lives on the top floor of the house next door, No. 695, was arrested. Mrs. Millazio, the widow, says that when she went to the Coroners inquest Dec. 15 friends of De Michell advised her to “forget about the dead and think more of the living.” She replied she intended to tell the truth. The police agree with her that the bomb ‘was exploded on the roof this morn- ing to intimidate her. Inspector Egan said it was made of dynamite. The other bomb was of chemical composition, according to Inspector Eagan, and was filled with slugs. It was set off in @ reinforced ash can in front of No. 323 East Seventy/fourth street, on the ground floor of which Antonio La Barbera has a grocery and macaront factory. The explosion left little of the ash can except the heavy iron bands. The fragments were thrown acroés tho street and perforated with large holes, and doors on the other side of the street were dented by the slugs. The grocery windows were blown in and canned goods scattered, and a few windows in other parts of the house were broken. Tho residents of the neighborhood soon filled the streets and had to be dispersed by "| reserves and the East Sixty-seventb Street Station. La Barbera, who lives on the sec- ond floor of the house with his wife and three children, denied he had re- ceived threatening letters recently, but sald that following Black Hand threats a bomb was exploded there July 8, 1903.
