The actual $10,000,000 merger, which Is practically a trust, of the Yellow Taxicab Company and the Mason- Beaman Transportation Company— to-day at separate meetings of the stockholders of the two organisations, when resolutions were passed ratify- ing the action of the officers in bring- ing about the merger. | ‘The papers of incorporation of the new corporation, which will be known as the Mason-Seaman Transportation Company, were forwarded this after- noon to Secretary of State Mitchel May. William H. Barnard, majority stookhol ier of the old Mason-Seaman Company, is President of the new taxicab trust. Plans are new under way, it was learned this to effect a combination between the new Mason- Company and the Westcott Express Company, which has a mo- nopoly on the taxicab business at the Grand Central Station. If this latter merger is effected the taxicab trust will have a monopoly on all taxicab business originating at all the railway | terminals in New York and all in- | coming passengers will be charged a taxicab rate much in excess of the} rate. PERMITTED TO CHARGE MORE ‘THAN LEGAL RATE. The Yellow Taxicab Company has &@ monopoly of the business at the | Pennsylvania and New Jersey Cen- | tral terminals, while the Westcott | Company has a monopoly on the) business originating at the New York | Central, D., 1. and W., the Erie and | the West Shore. | By operating from the private | property of the railroads at these | terminals the trust is enabled to charge a much higher rate than the law allows public hackmen to charge for equally good, or better, service. ‘The merger effected to-day will give the Mason-Seaman Transporta- tion Company physical control of over 1,200 of the 2,200 taxicabs in New York. If the Westcott Company is taken over, 200 more cabs will be in control of the trust—considerably me than half the taxicabs in New Yor!
