Mayor Gaynor had his attention called to-day to a bill which appears to have slipped quietly through the Legislature and which contemplates that if an ap- pointive officer is nominated for an elective office he may return to his original office in the event of defeat, or even after the expiration of the term of his new office in the event of | election. The bill was introduced by | Assemblyman Owen Kiernan and is scheduled for a hearing before the Mayor to-morrow. The measure further provides that the officeholder elected to another office may apply for a leave of absence without pay and the granting of that leave is mandatory.
