RICH LONG ISLANDERS ORGANIZE ANOTHER NEW COUNTRY CLUB Midland Golf Club Members Interested in Project at East Williston. Any doubt thet may have existed as to the starting of another country club on Long Island, within twenty miles of New York, waa ended, last night, when the annual meeting of the Midtand Gott Club was held at the Garden City Hotel, Garden City. It was voted that the Midiand membership should not, a @ body, go over to the new organt- gation, which has secured @n option on one hundred acres of land at Hast ‘Wliston, within easy walking distance of Mineola, although @ few weeks ago, at a gathering held at the Murray Hill Hotel, Manhattan, it wae formally expressed as the sense of the meeting that the Midland officers should arran: euch teal estate prelimiuarics. ‘The scemingly contradictory action doex not forewhadw any split in the Midland ranke, as might be inferred, although nearly all the members of the ho}ding company, which is to be or- ganized at once to begin work on the} new course this week, is composed | practically entirely of Midland mem- bers. Among the prime movers are R. W. Turner and George H. Lowden, the Midlaud Club president and secre- retary, respectively, Others are Wilson B, Bryce, Donald = MacKellar Charles W. Walker. Tt {a also known that William Ke Vanderbilt jr. will be a stockholder, and while he is not likely to become an active member he has promised to co- operate in its establishment. The club option extends to more than fifty acres of Motor Parkway land in which he te the central figure. There arc also forty-five acres tn- cluded in the Titus facm. It is planned to limit the mombership to 300 per- wong, who will be chose 1 rathe: accord- ing to profiency in sports than along} ecetal new. The Midland Club {s to continue to occupy the «emi-public Salisbury course at Garden City. The ol land Board of Governors was r ed lant night. Eventually it is Ikely the membersuip of the new and old clitds will grow to be less in common.
