In the second part the baritone has two fine solos, “So pure and fair" and ‘Weary, so weary of infinite sighing.’ The or- chestra depicts the death of Beatrice and the chorus sings that atirring “Ah!” The music throughout, both for voices and orchestra, 1s beautiful, never failing to convey spiritual uplift with the prevailing p: % Alma Gluck sang exquisitely her part which ends with the prologue, save for her four words just before the end, “I dwell in peace,” which she 414 not sing lagt night. Amato, who carried the ‘burden of the solo work, never has sung better or #o convincingly. His rich voice reflected every sentiment of the text and was full of tenderness.
