Oct. 1.—Xoren | Jensen came up from Banksville to-day and reported what he referred to as the Diggest “bovine souse” in his recollec- tion. Jen- sen's orchards furnished the apples that have been carpoting the ground beneath the trees for weeks. There was such @ heavy crop that Jensen could not Pack and ship them fast enough to clear the ground. Day hefore yester- day the fallen apples had reached that stage of decomposition where ft takes very little churning tn a cow's stomach to produce the same effects that are obtained in the distillation of applesack. | HOLDOVER DEVELOPED INTO A ROARING BUN. Until last night the cows that in- dulged carried about a more or less ladylike @ouse, hiccuping now and then and occasionally kicking over a pail, as Jensen's men tried to milk them. But yesterday they worked up the morning's holdover into @ roaring bun, & as it were, and there was the deuce to pay all over the Jensen pastures. When it came time for the evening's fg milking not a cow could be persuaded to leave the fields, where thoy were still hitting it up on fermented ap- ff les. According to one of Jensen's hired men, several of the cows were attempt- ing to sing and making the most dismal noises imaginable.
