| | ELEM SUSPECT WORKED FOUR DAYS ON ALBANY BOAT MURDER, SAYS EIRL Fifty-One Members of Ke nebec’s Crew Taken to Wil- lard Parker Hospital. ANOTHER SAILOR HELD. Taken Off the Purdy Banks, From Mexico, at Ferth Amboy. By order of Health Commissioner Lederle fifty-one men, comprising the crew and firemen of the steamboat Kennebec, which carries passengers nd freight between this city and Al- bany for the Manhattan Line, were taken from the boat, upon her arrival from Albany this morning, to Willard Parker Hospital, at the foot of Fast fixteenth street. These men are being held there until se'eriological tests shall determine whether or not any have been infected with germs of | Asiatic cholera. ‘The action of Commissioner Lederle | was prompted by the discovery last night that, for four days prior to last ‘Thureda: when Manuel Bermudes, a Spanish seaman, was admitted to Hell- @vue Hospital suffering from cholera, | he had been a fireman on the Kenne-| bea, Immediately this became known | to the health authorities inspectors were instructed to look up the Ken- nebec. The boat left Albany yesterday evo- ing. She was boarded this morning At the One Hundred and Twenty-ninch street plor by @ big corps of inspectors, who remained on board until she reached the Manhattan line pier at Houston street. There passengers and freight were permitted to land, but the mem- bers of the crew and the firemen were tetained. The boat was thoroughly fumigated this afternoon, but will not vake the regular trip to Albany to- sight. ANOTHER CASE SUSPECTED AT ERTH AMBOY. ° Another case of what is believed to be Asiatic cholera, entirely disassociated with those which came to New York on July 1 on an emigrant ship from {taly, was reported to-day. The report came from Perth Amboy, N. J., across | Staten Island Sound from Tottenville. The British mehip Purdy Banks, ‘rom Tampico, Mex., with a cargo for the American Smelting and Refining Company, reached Perth Amboy this Morning. Dr, C, W. Naulty of the| United States Marine Hospital Service, | stationed at that port, boarded the ves- 941 and found one of the sailors serl- ously 1 with an ailment that had all the symptoms of cholera, Naulty lost no time tn quaran- tining the Purdy Ba: Then he tele- phoned to Quarantine Station and at hie request two experts who have been aiding Dr. Doty in caring for the chol- era cases on Swindurn islands were sent to hi ® bacteriological subject. JELLEVUE 6USPECT ISOLATED! He is the orderly whe attended Bermudes while tha: pa- tent was in Bellevue. ‘Deere are indications that Herrman hae ® well defined case of cholera, but the bacterioloyical examination will not be completed for several hours.
