NOB HANGS ABOY TOTELEPHONEPOLE INEARTOF TOWN Lynching of Young Mexican | by Texans Quickly Fol- lows Street Murder. THORNDALE, Tex, June %.—The whittling of @ atick led to the killing of Charles Zeitung, a garage owner, and the subsequent lynching of a Mex!- can youth here jast night. Whether the boy was a citizen of the United States or of Mexico is not known, The Sheriff of Milan County is on his way te Fhorndale to investigate. ‘The Mexican, a iad of about eighteen years, whose name has not been ascer- tained, was sitting on the sidewalk in front of Zeitung’s garage early last night, dndustriousty wielding his pocket- knife and making a pile of shavings, Zeitung protested against the littering up of the entrance to his place of busi- ness and ordered the youth to stop. This angered the Mexican, and he stabbed Zeitung through the heart. ‘The slayer was arrested and lodged In the town jail. Shortly after night- | fall a mob of about one hundred men | gathered, stormed the prison and took out the Mexican. Some of the party went for ropes, but others in the crowd were impatient and held up a Mexican truck ‘farmer | who was driving a load of watermelons | to market. The team was unhitched and the four trace chains fastened together. One | end of the chain was fastened about \ the neck of the youth while a boy climbed a telephone pote, throwing the free end over a beam, The mob gra the chain and hoisted the Mexican about six feet from the ground and the free end was made fast to a foot spike in the pole The crowd quickly dispersed and the body was left hanging for an hour before it was lowered The lynching occurred on the cipal street of Thorndale. —— > | CHAPLAINS WILL RIDE | prin- on Provides ed by Commissioner Johns Carriages Formerly Deputy Chiefs.
