UP TO DATE AND NEWSY wn THE EVENING WORLD, THURSDAY, THE BEST SPORTING PAGE IN NEW YORK AUGUST 13, 1908, EDITED BY ROBERT EDGREN: Boston Fans Will Get Pugi- lstic Treat When Papke| Fights Carroll and Man- tell To-Night at Armory B night when: Billy Papke fights Johnny Carroll, of New York, and Frank Mantell, of Pawtucket. Papke is to meet Carroll first and Mantell afterward, each in a six. round fight. That is, six rounds if dt goes as far as that. Last time Billy Papke fought two men In Bos- ton he disposed of the first in a round and the second in four. Popke must be ‘some fighter’ when the promoters can’t find one man good enough to meet him alone. Willle Yewis was first matched to fight him, bwe William evidently thought It over carefully, for he crawtished. There was no chance to “fix it” with Papke. In to-night’s battle Johnny Carroll will go on first at his own request. This isn't to say that Carroll has a brilliant chance with a man like Billy Papke. The Thunderbolt ought to wade through him, with eighteen pounds ad- vantage in welght.
