TEN PLAYS VIOLIN —<++ Artist Farm Hand Calmly Gives Details of Murder on Sheppard Farm— Hopes to Escape Death Penal- ty by “Brainstorm” Plea. Here is the confession of the murder of Lieut. William D. Shep- pard, his young wife Josephine and Jennie Bondy, their servant, on the! Sheppard squab farm, near Wickatunk, N. J., last Saturday, as written | to-day-by the young art student and violinist, Frank Zastera, in the Mon- mouth County Jail at Freehold. He wrote the confession with a steady hand, signed it and handed it to the jailer, who witnessed it; then the boy | * calmly picked up his fiddle and played a light Bohemian waltz. I came in with the milk and set Palls down in front of refrigerator and then went the house and got the gun from the corner where Mr. Sheppard had set it the night before. I then went into the par- Yor and concealed myself near the Rall door. In a few minutes Mrs Sheppard came down with a milk bottle in her left hand and went toward the kitchen. She came in a short time with the milk bottle and went toward the stairs. I shot her three ¢ in back s. 1 saw Mr. 1 of the stairs. Tle stooped and started downstairs T shot and he fell on the banisters, and then I shot again and he fell over his wife's body. I then went out toward the kitchen and saw Zennio and shot her. I then went ack to where Mr. Sheppard's body ) Was and took the pocketbook from his hip pocket. and took out the bills, but left the checks, I put the Pocketbook back in his pocket and went upstairs and put the gun in the corner of the smafi room and then came downstairs and ran out the side shed door, and dropped tie Money next to the woodp'le. I then went to notify Mr, Wall F. (FRANK) ZASTERA. Jailer Signs as Witness. , The youth first wrote simply the sig- mature “F. Zastera," but after reading over his manuscript inserted th “Frank.” Edward Cashian, the Jailer, stood over the prisoner while he wrote, nd then added his signature to th document as witness.
