tepese, Pesaley fe al om 3 oN te SHES HHS ABOUT VREELND Congressman, Supposed Envoy of Roosevelt, in Fight on Odell. (Special to The Evening World.) ALBANY, March 5.—Congressman James W. Wadsworth had a long talk Higgins to-day about the Political eituation in this State. The Congressman is understood to have cammunicated to the Governor the views of President Roosevelt on the proposition to reorganize the Repub- Mean State Committee. Congressman Wadsworth said that he discussed with the Governor the question of a judgeship appointment for his district. . “Tt is reported that your visit to the Governor had to do with a proposition to make Congressman Vreeland, of Ca tateugus, the rucessor €x-Gov Odell as Republican State Chairman,” an Evening World correspondent said to the Congressman. “My interview with the Governor re-| disorderly conduct. Defrancisco lives |? My. fated to matters concerning dis- trict.” was Mr. Wadsworth’s reply. “Are you in favor of Vreeland for State chairman,” was asked. “Tam [think he would meke a good chairman.” “Are you one of those who believe tn an immediate reorganization of the party?" “Iam for reorganization at the oppor- tune time,” was the evasive reply. The impression here Js that the re- organizers have suffered an attack “cold feet,” and are afrald that the echeme to oust Odell immediately would Not carry. As one of them observed to-day: “We can't zo into this thing unless we are dead certain of having the votes to put through the project. It would my be better to wait until fall and proceed | regularly, than to make an attempt now, and fall." The demonstration for Odel at the recent dinner of the legislative oorre- spondents {s sald to have undermined ths confidence of the ‘new deal” oon- tIngent to put the ex-Governor out of Dueiness. Some of the State Committee- men wao were counted as anti-Odell have been discovered to be ant!-Hig- sine, Another disturbing element in the ait- uation for the reorgantzers is the clash of personal ambitions that arises every tima some one is mentioned to take Odell’s place. William Barnes, jr., and the others in Eastern New York, ft ts said, would be exceedingly sore over the elevation of Vrecland to the chatrmanshtp. The western end of the State would be eetting a monopoly of tne good things. Congressman Wadsworth went to New York after his interview with the Gov- ernor. He came here late last night fm, stopped with his son, Speaker Wadsworth. Gov. Higgins refused to discuss bis | talk with the Congressman.
