When they concern the intimate business affairs of a great community they become doubly interesting. (Nothing comes nearer to the daily business life of New York than the little Want advertisements in The World. These grow as the town grows. (hey buy, sell, exchange, find help and work. They do the people’s business. In 1905, the twenty-third year of The World’s continuous growth @ince its uplifting began in 1883, it printed, in its morning and Sunday editions only, 34,680 columns of advertising, an increase of 6,49834 columns, divided into 1,134,959 single paid advertisements, a gain over 1904 of 206,316. Tho New York newspaper closest to The World in total space grew much less than half as much in columns and increased but 7,911 single advertisements. The World's gain has not been sporadic or forced by special rates or privileges. It has stepped up with the years.
