PITTSBURG, July %—There was a fearful explosion In basebril circles here to-day when President Harry C. Pulliam, of the National League, through his old friends the Pittsburg baseball writers came back at Barney Dreyfuss 'and the Pittsburg Club in a telegraphic Totter from New York, in which he says that Dreyfuss cannot jump too quick from the National League if he feels \that way, but that he cannot dictate to him. This was brought about by the snub- bing of Secretary Will Locke, of the Pittsburg team, in Boston a few days ago by Pulliam. The League President says he does not Intend to speak to Locke for the next million years. ‘The following letter was published tn every paper here to-day: “NEW YORK, July 27. “In answer to the sem\-official an- nouncement sent broadcast from Pitts- burg, and which has appeared in the New York papers, lo the effect that Barney Dreyfuss, displeased with the administration of affairs in the Natiouel League and further incensed at my re- fusal to speak to his secretary in Bos- ton, was threatening to jump to the American League, I wish to say over my. signature, and with all the emphasis Tecan bring to bear, that Barney Drey- fuss or no other man can pick my friends or tell me to whom to bow, and that if he is thinking of jumping he ought to hurry, as it ls needless for hitn to wait for the answer, for I would not speak to Locke aguin in a miilion years. The fact that the Pittsburg. club won the pennant three years does not entitle Jt to receive any more consider- ation in the conduct of the league af- fairs than the unfortunate tall-enders of the league race. “Dreyfuss fs not entitled to a shade the best of it in the government of the league, and as long as I am President he will not get it. He may win pen- nants from now until Lawson breaks up the Standard Oil, but he will only t thé same treatment as the tall- rs—a. fair deal and nothing more. “Barney Dreyfuss knows me like a book, far better than any other man in the National League. He knows that as Secretary and President of the Louis- ville Club, then as Secretary and ‘Troas- urer of the Pittsburg Club and later as Presidont of the Nuuional ue I have boon a tai mun and square official, It he wishes to cast aside the friendship ‘of eleven years’ duration and lift up iigainst me on account of Locke or any other grievance I too cpt wet out & weit of inju him, But on the contrary, I wall wae him luck and lots of it. 1 ooniclusion I wish to say positively, that No matter what tion Mr. Dreyfuss mi kon of Mis team or how juanly hurdles he Na+ Fea (te ger will ‘be. reprisented in Pitsburg in 1906 by a team worthy of “it that wreat GOWARRY C, PULLIAM —<—<————==—___- MAYOR OFF TO THE WOODS.
