Vrbsky's brother Fred, an intelligent young Polack, was convinced that William had not assault- ed Vokalek, and after the arrest made @n investigation on his own account. He found, he says, that Rina struck Vokalek after a quarrel, and that the fatal injury was caused by the elder man falling on the sidewalk. Willlam Vrbsky, according to his brother, was the first to discover the Injured man and tried to revive him, Others saw him bending over Vokalek and told the detectives of it, whereupon William Vbtsky was arrested.
