The unsettled condition of the weather last woek interfered some- what with the Fund's programme, Cars ‘Were sent out three different nights, but Fain came down and kept many of the ticket holders away. the weather will be more propitious this week and that Jupiter Pluvius will not interfero with the rides, After this Week the plan ts to give the trolley rides every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout July and August, In the distribution of tickets the Sick Bables’ Fund has called to fts ald the Salvation Army, the Association for Improving the Condition of the Poor, the University Settlement in Eldridge street, the Unitod Hebrew Charities and the Grace Chapel Society. The vistors of these societies place the tickets Where they will do genuine good, and! this mode of distribution keeps them | from falling into undeserving hands, | The summer-night rides are twenty- nine miles long and keep the babies and thelr mothers in the cool, freeh and moving alr for two an one-half hours, The cars start trom downtown potnta on the Bowery and Third avenue and proceed thence to One Hundred and ‘Twenty-Atth street, which they cross to| Amsterdam avenue. Then the ride ta! @long Amsterdam avenue ty One Hun- @red and Sixty-second street, where | turn a mado into the Kingsbridge Road, | end the happy passengers are swiftly and smoothly bowled along through waving Mlisides and green-tringed roads | to the Kingsbridge terminus of the line at Two Hundred and Twenty-second| street, A halt Is made there for two! or three minutes, and then the re-| freshed carloads come back home ever the same delightful route. This ride was made possible by the kindly In- terest Superintendent of Transporta- tlon Thomas A. Delaney, of the Metro- politan Street Railway Company, and the management of the company gen-| erally took in the Sick Bables’ Fund's| Plans for this summer. The Metropoll- tan departed from its rule about not chartering cars for private use and agreed to let the Fund have what cars ft needed, provided the trips did not interfere with the company’s regular schedule or cause any tnconventence to the travelling public, Mr, Delaney gave his personal attention to the preliminary arrangements for the trips and mapped out the longest and best trolley ride that is to be had in New York. On the night of the first ride President H. H. Vreeland and Supt. Delaney were both on hand at the starting points downtown to see that the mothers and babies Were sent off all right, The Sick Babies’ Fund is distinetly + @ Ddables’ charity, although ft has in previous years extended its work so as to Include children of al ages, and sometimes adults, This summer, how- ever, it will connfine its work to the! babies and thelr mothers, and the trolley rides are for these, and for these only, It will take only mothers and infants on its cars, and leave the other ohildran to be provided for elsewhere. | Children not in arms cannot be cared for properly on the cars, and to pre-| Vent accidents they will be excluded. | The summer-night trolley ridea are spoken of as the most beautiful and Appealing phase ye offered of the Bick Rabies’ Fund's many efforts in behalf of the tots of the tenements, The §Teatest praise of it comes from ali Quarters, and especially from charity workers who are familiar with the) needs and wishes of the poor, Sub-| scriptions to the Fund from Evening ‘World readers are coming in generously. | A check from W, Newton Bennington, the famous horseman, added $10 to the Fund, and there are #10 from N, D.
