MOCERN “FAGIN" PAVED AND SWORE Simon Creustoft, Convicted of Teaching Boys to Steal, Creates Scene in Court When He Is Sentenced. TRIED TO HURL INK-STAND AT JUSTICE ZELLER. Cursed the Court and Fought with Police—Year in Peniten- tiary and $500 Fine the Dose He Got. Struggling in the grasp of a half 4ozen policemen, shouting epithets at his judges, Simon Creustoft, a modern “Fagin,” was to-day sentenced to the Penitentiary for one year and to pay & fine of $00 by Justice Zeller in Special Bessions. In every respect Croustoft acted after conviction as Dickens described the way Fagin conducted himself after his arrest and conviction. He raved and his captors and in his frenzy inkstand to hurl at the Jus- ho sent him to prison. Creustoft lived at No. 88 Ridge street. He was arrested a week ago by Agent William J. Fogarty, of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, acting with the officers of the Hebrew Béucational Alliance. A dozen small boys ranging from eight to twelve Yoars ago were arrested with Creustoft fn & room at . 122 Norfolk street, which he had fitted up as a school in ‘hich to teach the boys the art of pick- ing pockets, How He Taught the Boys. In court to-day one of the boys, Israel Levine, eleven years old, of No. US Orchard street, described to the three justices how the modern Fagin had taught them to steal. With Supt. Jenkins, of the Children's Society, young Levine {Ilustrated to the Court how proficient he had become after a few weeks’ tuition by Creustoft. ‘Mr. Jenkins placed a pocketbook in Bis inside coat pocket.
