’ Was Assaulted by 200 Freight-Hand- ‘sailants at Essex Market. John Lane; a striking freight handler, of No. 60% Water street, was shot dn the prison pen of the Dssex aMrket Court late this afternoon by Law- Daly, a ‘non-union man of No. 73 Montgomery street, for assaulting Lane and James O'Donnell, of No. 605 Water street, had just been |. The shooting followed a riot at the corner of Water and Mont- streets, in which some two hundred strikers took part and in which was badly beaten. “Daly Jett the New Haven plier this afternoon to go home. He was {Il after he had gone several blocks he noticed that the strikers were fol- ing him. When he reached the corner of Montgomery and Water streets | dozen men broke away from the rest of the strikers and attacked him.
