Gordon discovered fire in the res!- fence of Henry Ringelser, of No. 23a Whirteenth strect, Tho fire was on the Arat floor of the house and was burning flercely. The policeman with difficulty broke through the front door and mwakened the sleeping family. They ran to the street in their night clothes when it was seon that the house next @oor was fast filling with smoke and the occupants were in danger of suf- focation. The policeman broke in the floor of ihe seconfi house and several families who occupy the house were hustled into the street. It was then thought that all were safe When a woman began screaming: “My Ufttle boy and girl are in that house.” Gordon sprang past the crowds and ran up to the third floor of the house, ‘The halls were thick with smoke and every room was filled to, suffocation.
