Efforts are being made by the police sf the West One Hundred and Twenty- ifth street station to-day to capture a gman who at midnight assaulted and robbed Mrs. Anna Roberts, of No. “5 {West One Hundred and Eleventh street, at the elevated station at One Hundred pnd Twenty-ffth street and Etghth avenue. ‘The assault and robbery follow & neries of such crimes that have been committed in this section of the city uring the past two weeks. There Ix hardly a night that robberies and as- saults are not committed and women Insulted on the street between Eighth avenue and Morningside Park and One Hundred and Tenth and One Hundred and Twenty-fifth streets, So frequent have these assaults be- come that an association has been formed of the citizens of Morningside Heights, and private detectives have been employed to protect their property and guard pedestrians who walk along the dimly lighted street and through the park.at night. Mrs. Roberts only recently rented the artments in West One Hundred and Eleventh street. and with a friend left @ hotel in Harlem, where she is now living, and wen: to the house to arrange gome of her furniture. She and the friend were returning to the hotel and fwere leaving the elevated train, ‘The theatres were just letting out and there were crowds of persons mai ir way up the stairways and o' @ bridge which crosses Eighth avenue. A man, who was also a passenger on ie train, walked behind Mrs, Roberts 4 her companion. He — suudenly ftepped forward and tried to snateh a purse; from Mrs, Roberts's hand. She fought the man off, when he dealt r a violent blow in the face, felling her to the floor of the bridge. He then her purse and ran, golug up hth avenue, Negro Chased Thief. Peter Domigue, a West Indian Begro, witnessed tho assault, as didn number of other persons. Domigue however, was the only one who re- alized that a robbery was being com. mitted. When the man ran he pur- sued him for several blocks, Tho thief turned east and disappeared, Mrs, Roberts was rendered almost unconscious from the blow, She was curried to a drug store and restora- tives given her. Later she reported the robbery to the police and detec tives were sent to look for the thief Mrz, Roberls told the police that her purse contained $2.50 in change and a number of keys, After leaving tho Police station she and her companion went to! the Colonial Hotel and telo- phoned to friends. It is said that Mra. Roberts's husband is Robert S. Roberts | and that he is in the phonograph busi- ness. SUE eee MRS. TOY DISMISSED.
