Hurled a Wagon in the Air and Plunged Against a Stone Fence, Throwing Occupants Out—All Severely Injured. ~ ‘While on thelr way to call on Fox- hall Keene, at Westbury, L. 1, Lewis . and William Payne Thompson, well- known clubmen of this city, narrowly escaped death in a pecullar automobile accident. ‘The automobile was going at the rate of thirty miles an hour down an incline opposite the new Calvary Cemetery, about three miles from Long Islanil City, when a crowd of small boys on the roadside made it a target for thelr Slingshots, A marble struck the chauf- feur and knocked him insensible, He was Frederick Baice. The marble struck him squarely in the right eye. His goggles were smashed and the eyeball was cut by a plece of the broken glass. Hoe fell back fn his seat unconscious and the automobile ran wild, It swerved to.one side and struck a wagon which was standing beelde the road. The wagon was hurled ten feet into the Air and the auto ran Into a stone wall. William Payne Thompson was thrown out and had his legs badly bruised. Lewis 8. Thompson was not thrown out, but was injured by tho shock of the sollision, Fortunately the wagon broke the full force of the auto before it struck the wall. ‘Tho accident occurred in front of tho residence of Raemus Christiansen, who ran to the ald of the injured men. Bolee, the chauffeur, was still uncon- scious and was taken out and lala on the grass, It was several minutes be- fore he recovered.
