NASON BUILDERS PEPARE CHARGE Aneoolation Accuses Members of Brioklayers’ Union of Partloi- pating In Movement Favoring the Laborers’ Strike. MATERIALS UNSUPPLIED, BRICKLAYERS LAY OFF. Union Has Not Called a General Strike, Atthough Four Locals Have Indorsed Action of Men Who Are Out. The Mason Builders’ Assootatton pro- barges to-day against the Brick- Union, which they will present at the earliest opportunity to the Gen- eral Arbitration Board, The charges tre based on the action of some of the members of the union in participating in a sympathetic movement in favor of the laborers’ strike. Tt In urged that this sympathetic mavement is In violation of the agree- ment that exists between the Brick- lnyers anf the Mason Builders’ Asso- ciation, which forbids any number of men in the unton to go out on @ job in which the Mason Butlders’ Association are interested. ‘Tha charges will be heard out before the General Arbitra- tien Board within a week. The agree- ment alleged to be violated went into effect on Aug. 1 last and was to run until May 1. : The bricklayers in this city, though in full sympathy with the striking Inborers, have not called a general atrike. They have been cumpelled to lay off, ax there are no laborers work- ing to supply them with materials. Four of ihe nine locals of the Brivk- Union met last night and in- sed the action taken by the Iabor- ers, ‘The indorsement of the remaining five locals |s expected to- It was stated to-day that some of the delegates of the Bricklayers’ Unton are { nthe pay of the fireproof manufac- turers and that thoy are endeavoring to bi the agreement the bricklayers have with the Mason Builders’ Associ tion. In order to further this purpos ft Is stated, the report las been circ! Jated that the bricklayers have called general atrike. At the last convention of the Inter- national Association of Bricklayers, it was declared to-day, a resolution was passed against the vote of the Now York delegates to the effect that all fireproofing, blosk-arching and terra cotta cutting be tone by any firm or ecrpor: Lion of ‘manufacturers in any Jocality within the jurisdiction of the 1 Associaton, providing such ration will comply #it? the regu ar industrial laws, The Gen- eral Secretory of the Union was or derod to nctify all subordinate ualons of the force of this agreement ani in- struct them to make no contracts that woul iy any way confilet with it. Agreement with Mason Builders. By the present agreement of the Brick- Jayers’ Union with the Mason Bullders’ Association, the latter union 1s not al- lowed to sublet any of the fireproofing, which is @ per cent. of the job. This agreament expires on Muy 1, and the con- servative element in the union wishes to renew ft, whereas those delegates said to be.in the pay of the fireproof manu- facturers are'striving to break it. ‘The purpose is to allow the National Fireproofing to get into New York and bid for the work. This would subordinate the bricklayers to the gen- eral contractors and allow the National Fireproofing Company to bring its own labor to New York am4 throw hundreds of bricklayers out of jobs, as the new men would work as specialists. The conservative members of the Bricklayers’ Union expeot to defeat this purpose and renew their agreement with the Mason Builders’ Association, ‘Will Cont $000,000 Wages.
