Mr. Ubler was satisfied, and the en- gagement was to have been formally announced on Thanksgiving Vay. On Thanksgiving Eve Langer received a curt note from Mr. Uhler cancelling the engagement. No explanation was given, and Langer was unable to see Miss Uhler. He could ndt even get a messa, to her, He learned that the Uhlers were to give dinner party, at which Miss Uhier would be present. Counting upon the girl's loyalty he planned to enter the room and carry her off under her father’s nose.
