POLICE HUNTING ~ PRIESTS WATCH Father Cirringione’s Full Story RENAISSANCE LACE TRIMMED Convinces Officials that He Was Imprisoned and They Start Search. HE SEEKS BOY WHO MET HIM WITH KIDNAPPERS. Wagon with Seats in It in Which Victim Was Taken from Dun- geon Is Being Sought by De- tectives. There now seems to be no doubt that the Rev. Joseph Cirringione was kid- Mapped and imprisoned. After listening to a straightforward story told by the priest at St. Vincent's Woapital, the police have come to the + “eonolusion that his story is true, and ‘Mhey are actively seeking the four men mio kidnapped and held him captive from @riday night until Monday morn- ing. “He will aid them all he can, he says. Gubetantial proofs of hin story were furnished by Father Cirringione. The Police have these clues to work on: Rocco Pana, sexton of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and cousin of Father Cirringlone, heard the man ‘who called for the priest talking with film at the door. Who walking along First street with the Mian, and before they reached the carriage, the priest says he met a boy ‘who recognized him and tipped his hat. ‘The police are seeking this boy, Father Cirringione's gold watch and ehain and his gold<handled cane were taken by the kidnappers. The watch ‘was once pawned by the priest, and he has told the police where he pawned ft. They can secure the’number of the watch at the pawnshop, WHI Find Boy. With these clues to work on the police have started on a systematic search for the kidnappers, Father Cirringione himself will take an active part in the search, and says he will find the boy who met him on Friday night and who Will corroborate that part of his story &% s00n as he is able to leave the hos- pital. A reason for the kidnapping 1s con- tained in the statement made by Wather Cirringione to the police, On Oct. 2 the corner-stone of the new church was laid. Archbishop Farley and other prominent churchmen were there, und Father Cirringione made a speech, in which he outlined the work of building The new church. He publicly apfounced that he had made arrang ments to borrow $15,000 for the purpo: ©f completing the church. Two days after this public announce- Ment of the loan the priest received the first of the letters demanding $3,- 000. He. was ordered to walk In a certain direction in Bronx Park, and there he would meet a man tc whom he was to pay the money. In all his ‘gtorles of the treatment ho recelved in the basement where the kidnappers kept him, the priest has aid that the men in searching him asked him where the money, was, They mentioned the $15,000, and demanded that he tell them what he did with it, Their surorise at finding only the $200 belonging to his sister and the $70 he had in his vockets 1s proof of the fact that they thought he had ae- oured the loar, and had the money in his pockets. Debts Were Few. ‘The suggestion made originally by the police to the effect that the priest had’ become mentally deranged, and had gone away of his own accord be veause of financial troubles, is utterly Fefuted by the fact that his debls were fe¥, and that he could have had the money to pay them at any time by *almply applying to Archbishop Farley. The statement that he had to sup- Rort his family has also been denied y the priest. ‘The father and sisters Live at No. 900 West Seventeenth street, The girls all work, and it is thelr money which supports the home. ‘That they are well able to do this ts proven by the fact that the $200 taken from the priest by the kidnappers was given to him by them as a marriage Portion for Marianne, the eldest als- ter, who is shortly to be married Dr. Laseaux, of Flower Hospital, who was called to the East Mifty-trst street station when the priest was first brought there, and Doctors Conley and O'Rourke, of St. Vincent's Hospital, belleve the priest's story implicitly ‘They say he has been &t all times since his disappearance, and that his stories bear every mark of ruth. oor O'Rourke climinates the original uh y that Father Cirr! i Wandered away aimlessly while su ing from temporary Insanity He there is no sign of mental derange- mes: and that the priest's excltem Was merely due to the treatment. he had received and the lack of food.
