GLUE OUND 10 BUY ABSCONDER Glarence Leonard, Who Is Ac-} cused of Robbing Employers | of Mare than $10,000, Seen, in Streets of Cortiand, N. Y. KATHERINE MILLER ACCOMPANIED HIM. | Both Were Happy and Did Not Appear to Fear Arrest—Sup- posed to Be on Their Way to; Buffalo. | ‘The first news regarding the where- mBouts of Clarence Leonard and Katha- rime Miller, the young couple who disap- peared together on the day Leonard robbed his employers of more than ‘$10,000, was received in East Orange to- @ay by a man who lives near the parents ef the accused young absconder. Across the street from him lives the parents of the missing girl, and no time was lost fm telling them that she had been seen and that she and her boy sweetheart: were apparently happy and in the best) of health. The couple were seen yesterday in Cortland, N. Y., walking on the street, without fear of the army of police and @etectives who are trying to run them te earth, Aetherine M out AGAIN What Powerful Food Can Do, It is evidently a scientific and pow- erful food that can take confirmed in- | valids out of bed and make them well ain, “After doctoring two years for ter- rible stomach trouble I concluded that jit was Incurable,” says a young wom- | an of Fillmore, Ill. “I was confined to | er “We will stay here awhile,” sald the girl to D. H. Rosenthal, a musician, who formerly lived in East Orange, but who pow makes his home in Cortland. Ro- genthal recognized the boy, but did not know his companion. He had not heard that the boy was an accused forger and was a fugitive from justice, “Is this your wife?” Rosenthal asked the boy. Leonard evaded this question and be- wan to question Rosenthal regarding his success as a musician since he had ohanged his home. The couple left Rosenthal and disap- red from town. They are believed to be bound for Buffalo. Rosenthal sald that nolther of them seemed to be in fear of arrest. In fact, they were gay and laughing and appeared to be on a @ay’s pleasure trip rather than fugitives. How Leonard, who is only eighteen years old, and Miss Miler, who 1s four years his senior, end who was formerly a soctety qirl in the Oranges, have been fable to avoid the detectives cannot be explained. Immediately after the robbery was re- ported by Haskins & Sells, of No. where Leonard was em- alded by the Pinkerton agency and the police of New Jersey, were put on his track. Twenty minutes after the forgery was iscovered every ferry and railroad running out of New York was being watched, yet this hoy slipped by the police in some way and made good his escape, Leonard's parents are expected to exert every effort to save the boy from prosecution should he be arrested. His father is a man of means, and it Ie belleved that he will make good the shortage. Miss Miller's mother 1s prostrated and 1s in such a mental state that phy clans for a time after her disappearance feared she would not recover, For days after her disappearance her circle of friends refused to believe that she had gone with the accused boy forger. He was so much younger than sho and she hed such an excellent reputation and was 80 popular with the best society in Orange that no one believed she would throw herself away on a chijd—especially a chil » was accused of forgery and who was flying from arrest. “lusky and the Pinkerton y have been told that the couple EVERYWHERE. 117 RETAIL BRANCHES.
