THEN GIVES THE BRIDE A KISS he Is Tall and He Is Short, but the Judge imitates Arthur Dunn and Beats the Nethersole Kiss Record by Four Seconds. Cupid tripped into the Seventh Dis- trict Municipal Court to-day and made Tustice go back and sit down. Judge Herman Josoph and a jury had their brows wrinkled over a knotty case when William Corbyn Kompland, jr., of No, 131 West Ninetioth street, and Mrs. Rose Saxe, a ‘beautiful blonde widow, of No. 1222 Madison avenue, ap- eared in the doorway. Telling the lady not to be afraid—he would be back in just a minute—Mr. ‘Willlam Corbyn, &c., walked up to the bench and whispered something in the Court's ear. “Really!"" remarked the Judge, if some surprise, ‘ ‘His informant nodded. ‘The widow, when the Judge looked quiringly in her direction, blushed pret- tlly and dropped her eyes, just like a tage bride-to-be. ' The Judge raised his finger, cutting off the heated argument of an unnecessarily excited attorney and waking up a juror Whose chin had fallen on a eted tle. “Gentlemen,” he said, “will you kindly excuse me a minute while I bring joy to a couple of souls?” The jury having grinned acquiescence, Mr. Kompland and Mrs. saxe took their places, held fast, and a moment later had safely rounded the curve of matri- mony. An awkward silence folowed the fate- ful words, broken only when a juror Attempted 'a left-foot swing and landed heavily on a cuspiok At this point the bridegroom proud- ly straightened up, and with a pro- britany Blance at his prize, said: “Well, i suppose the Judge 1s en- titled to the first kiss if he wants it.” The Judge assured him he wanted it @o much he could taste it. “Heip yourself,” said the generous bridegroom. ‘Weil, now, that wasn't 60 easy, for it @o happened that the bride was’ statu- @aque, While the Judge came hardly to her shoulders, But the Judge had seen how Arthur una {tin “A Kiss for Sach eek," and he proved him- @ good imitator. jurors, who hed a stop- watoh, timed t operation. Roundsman, by Use \f Revolver, Per- suades Youth to Climb Fire-Es-|! cape In Pursuit of Another Mem-| ber of the Gang. Y Four young men, who led the police of the Oak street station a lively chase over housetops and fire-escapes just be- fore daybreak, were arraigned in the Centre Street Court to-day and charged with petit larceny, The police say they are amateurs caught in thelr first at- tempt at burglary. The prisoners were Henry Burns, a driver, of No, 12 Chatham Square; Robert Byrnes, of No. 41 Mott street; Charles Schiansky, of No. 65 Catharine street, and John Shea, of No, id East One Hundrea and Fourteenth’ street. Policeman John Daly spied them walk- ing down Oliver street, one of then car- rying @ sack over his shoulders, He gave chase and they broke and ran, Daly followed the man with the bag and rapped for assistance. His man threw the bag into an areaway before he was captured. He proved to be Robert Byrnes, and the bag when recovered contained eleven pairs of new shoes, evidently taken from a broken window, Roundsman Mulhall took after Schlan- sky and Shea. The latter he nabbed at Catharine and Delancey streets, but Schlansiay evaded him by running up a fire-escape. ‘The rowndsman with one prisoner on his hands was in a quan- dary. He feared to shoot lest his bullet go into a window, so he forced Shea at the point of his revolver to climb the fire-escape ahead of him, and then ke brought both men down. Policeman Montgomery followed Henry Burns and was led a merry chase up the fire-escape of an Oliver street tenement and over the housetups to Roosevelt street, where he finally landed his prisoner and took him down through a scuttle, When the men were lined up in the Oak street station Shea remarked to his comrades that they would have to change their jaunt to Coney Island to- day to a trip to the Island.
