He Doesn't Want Much—Only a Nice, Sensible, Good-Looking Girl Who Is Equppied with Something Worldly to Set Off His 2 Houses. “Yes, I really want to get a lovabip wife. Not one that puts on lots of airs, but a companion who will love me, cook for me and keep the house for me. “{ don't want an old woman. I want @ nice, pretty, sensible, good-looking @irl. I have advertised in the New York papers, and thougt I have received ™@any answers, none of the girls Beems to sult me. I find some of the New York women that write to me are too fresh or else they want to know too much about me. Although I am sixty years old, I look younger. “Whoever wrote that letter to me mak- ing an appointment, and then when 1 went to the spot arranged for in the girl's letter had a gang of toughs throw stones, sticks, stale eggs and other things at me, will have to suffer for it." Thus spoke Thomas McNulty, who owns two houses at Mount Vernon, one ot which he occupies alone at No. 631 Gouth Tenth avenue, when questioned to-day about a mysterious girl who made love to him tn a letter, and after entiding him to a trysting place, had fim assaulted. McNulty !s wroth and swears vengeance on the falr one who made the plot. He has appealed to Chief of Police Foley for protection, and Detectives Lynch and Atwell have been @ssigned to run down the letter-writer and find the young men who were hid- en behind a stone wall when they at- tacked him. MoNulty has lived alone ever since his wife died three years ago. In answer to this notice McNulty re- ceived a bushel-basketful of letters, some from old maids, young maidens, grass widows and old "widdies,” as he calls them. NOT A DROP OF ALCOHOL IN KIDNEY-WORT TABLETS. The best test of a kidney remedy is whether it cures permanently. If your backache, headache, rheuma- tism or urinary troubles come back as soon as you stop taking the medicine, the remedy is worse than useless—it is making your kidney trouble chronic No permanent cure can be expected from any liquid-prepared kidney remedy. The alcoho! used in liquid preparations makes it absurd to speak of them as remedies. They are inciters of the worst forms of kidney trouble. There is not a medical man in the world who does not realize the absurdity of a liquid kidney remedy. There is no excuse for any one using a harmful kidney remedy. Dr. Pettingill’s Kidney-Wort Tablets, because they con- tain no alcohol and cure permanently kidney diseases without injuring the heart or the stomach, have the confi- dence of physicians who would never think of ordering a liquid kidney remedy, The beginnings of kidney trouble show themselves in one or several of the fol- lowing symptoms: Backaches, loss of appetite. cloudy or milky colored, fragrant urine, swelling of hands and feet, bloating of the body, and unnatural th alternate chills and flushes, rheumatism, and quick, unsteady heart beats, urine becomes scanty and often tinged with blood, the bowels ob- stinately constipated, the pulse more fre- quent and smaller, and the sufferer anx- ious and restless; shooting, cutting and urine bright red, depositing whitish sedi- ments, a growing weakness, fugitive ard obscure pains in the lumbar region, drowsiness, emaciation, shortness of breath, dizzy feeling, disturbed sleep. If you experience any of the above symptoms, or have any doubt or sus- picion of ‘the health of your kidneys, test your urine yourself. If your water, when allowed to remain undisturbed in a glass or bottle for twenty-four hours, forms a sediment or settling, or has a cloudy appearance, it is evidence that your kidneys and bladder need immedi- ate attention. Three People Had Just Been Saved from Drowning When Margaret McManus Drank Polson. ‘The body of Margaret MoManus, who @rank carbolic acid while a crowd looked on at Recreation Pler, foot of West Fiftieth street, {s still at the Bforgue, although it 1s expected that a brother will claim it to-day. The crowd, which was thrown into a panic by the young woman's act, had previously ecen three persons rescued from the river. John Gerst and Ida Evans hired a rowboat and invited Uttle Jennie Snyder to go along. The child missed her foot- ing in stepping into the boat and fell into the water. In trying to reach ner Miss Evans also fell overboard, and the young man leaped in to save them. 'Dhe crowd cheered him as he got each by the arm and held them safely above the water while he called for help. Two lifesavers went to his assistance and soon hauled all three to the pler. | j They were taken to thelr home at No, 40 West Forty-fifth street. The excitement of the event had scarcely subsided when a young woman walked nervously on the pler. She cast @ frightened look about her and then drained the contents of a bottle which ehe took from the front of her dress, The air became heavy with the fumes of carbolic acid and she fell. ‘An ambulance was called, but she was when the surgeon reached her side.
