"The Orchards, of New York, won The Evening World's bowling tournament Jast night at Amann & Triess's alle Defore the largest crowd that ever at- tended a bowling game in New York. The victoty for the Orchards came @fter the hardest sort of a fight with the Metropolitans and the Fidellas, the former champions of the city. As the championship now stands the Metro- politans are second and the Fidellas ‘third. Crowd on Hand at Start, Last night's contest was a remarkable one in many ways. Long before the hour set for the first game Amann & Triess's hall was filled to overflowing with bowling enthusiasts, and the late fomers watched the proceedings from points of vantage on the outside. Sporting. G WORLD. = « [RUHLIN BOXED LIKE A NOVICE. Made Poor Showing in Fifteen+ Round Bout with Sandy Fer- guson, and the Decision at the End Was a Draw. (Special to Tho Evening World.) BOSTON, May %.—Sandy Ferguson surprised the members of the Criterion Club last night by boxing Gus Ruhlin @ fifteen-round draw. It was plain to the spectators that Ruhlin was in no condl- tion, while Sandy was never in better shape. There was but little difference in the weight and height of the men. Rublin was the aggressor throughout the contest, except on a few occasions when Sandy jabbed him In the face. In the second and tenth rounds Sandy got right counters on to Rublin's jaw that made the latter somewat unsteady. Ruhlin repeatedly jabbed Sandy, and in the mix-ups he scored the most points, It was an uninteresting affair, as there was too much clinching. It appeared to the spectators that Sandy wanted only to stay the Hmit. He did little leading and Ruhlin had to carry the boxing to him most of the time. By his showing last night Ruhlin has fallen off considerably in the est!mation Jof those who saw the bout. His work was more like that of a novice than anything else, and for a boxer who 18 looking for a match with champion Jef: fries to have allowed Ferguson to stand him off for that distance was a surpris It Is belleved that George Gardner can defeat him. In the opening preltminary Mosey King and Billy Fitzgerald boxed+ an eight-round draw. Sam Langford put Chick Monahan away im one round. NEW YORK'S MASTER SPECIALIST.
