Y., May 21.— Despondent over the loss of his busl- ness, which was being sold out by an assignee, and fearing he would be pen- niless, Robert J. Cooke, a prominent hardware merchant, of this city, shot himself early to-lay in the cellar of his store. His lifeless body was found by Robert Vickery, a friend, who broke into the store when Mr. Cooke failed to return to his breakrast.
