MANILA, April 18.—The warship Reina Christina, flagship of Admiral Montojo, which was sunk by Admiral Dewey-in Manila Bay on the memor- @ble May Day of 1898, was floated and beached yesterday. The skeletons of eighty of her crew were found in the hulk. One of the skeletons was evidently that of an officer, for it still had & sword by its side. = There are fifteen shell holes in the hull of the Reina Christina, One ‘was made by an eight-inch shell and the others were the result of shells of smaller bore. ‘The main injection valve is missing, showing that the ship was scuttled es Admiral Montojo abandoned her. The hull is in fair condition. Capt. Albert R. Couden, commanding the naval station at Cavite, took charge of the remains of the Spanish sailors and expressed a desire to give them an American naval) funeral. The Spanish residents, how- ever, arc anxious to ship the skeletons to Spain, and it is suggested that the United States transport Sumner convey them to Spain, by way of the Suez Canal, in June. A wrecking company {is endeavoring to raise the other Spanish war- ships sunk by Dewey. BISHOP O’CONNOR MAY BE SENT TO MANILA. Newark, N. Suffering from hallucinations, anxious to kill his brothers who were taking care of him, Willlam Meyer, of No. 63 Whipple street, Brooklyn, was placea in a straitjacket early to-day and re- moved to the Flatbush Asylum, ‘This required the undivided attention of six men for several minutes. The maniac was armed with a knife, and consider- ing the efforts he made to kill those who caught him it was thought fortu- nate that none was seriously cut. Meyer arrived here nearly a week ago from Germany, coming as steward on a ship which docked at Baltimore. His mother had told him to hunt up his two brothers, who live in the Whipple street house, He arrived there on Thursday and after a short time became con- vinced he had been sent to his brothers that they might put him jn an asylum. That ntght he attacked them with.a knife. It was taken from him: While one of his brothers watched by his side this morning he drew a knife from beneath the bed where he had hidden {t and attacked him. The other brother rushed in, and for half an hour the insane man chased them abou: the house. Their cries attracted the atten- tion of Patrolman Lott, of the Clymer Street Police Station. "An ambulance was sent for, and with the aid of others and the policemen Meyer finally was captured and held until an ambulance surgeon arrived with a straitjacket. n the chase about the room the mad- man cut his brothers and one of the neighbors.
