Y¥., March %4.— *Whitey” Sullivan, in. whose behaif Rey. Father Curry, of St. James's Chureh, New York City, so nobly ex- erted himself, was legally killed by electricity at noon to-day in Clinton Prison, Dannemora, for the murder of Matthew Wilson, night watchman of the town of Cobleskill, N. on Nov. 27, 1990, Suilivan was to have been ex- cuted on Feb, 24, but recelved two re- prieves of two weeks each from Gov. Otel! through the ald of Father Curry, who had discovered new evidence, Sulllvan—which, by the way, was not Dis real name—was one of a gang of Durglars that tried to loot the bank at Cobleskill. They were detected by Wil- eon, who shot at them and was killed when they returned the fire. Sullivan, Wiliam Hinch and Frank Ward, alias “Sheeny" Harris, were arresteu. Har- ris turned State's evidence and on his testimony Hinch and Sullivan were convicted. Hinch 1s now awaiting deatir in Clinton prison. Friends in New York City Interested Wather Curry in the case of Sullivan and a reprieve was obtained on Feb. 4, u few hours before the time set for Sullivan to go to the chair. Two weeks later another reprieve was granted ta order to allow the new evidence to be presented to Judge Betts at Kingston, ww, Y. Tho new evidence covered three points—that Harris swore on the stand that he was not an ex-convict, when he ‘was; that George Arden and Harry Hamlin saw Sullivan in a saloon in Albany an hour before the murder, and that James J. O'Reilly and Edward J. Biurphy, of Albany, heard Harris say that he had killed Wilson himself, sadee Betts considered this evidence carefully Sanrtwly and decided that t was not |.
