Has Determined to Retire from the Department About April 1. FEARS THE OFFICIAL KNIFE.. 18 Said to Have Told His Friends That the General Havoc Among the “Men Higher Up” Was Not to His Liking. It ts said that Chief Inspector of Po- lice Moses W. Cortright will retire from the Police Department on or about April Lightning has been playing such havoc with the “men higher up” in the depart- ment in recent months, his friends say, that Inspector Cortright does not pro- pose to endanger the honorable name he has made by exposing it to the peculiar gyrations of the official snicker-snee. So far ay js known, not one word has been said which could in any way reflect on the Chief Inspector, but he has eerved thirty-five yea and with ardent re- formers at the helm Inspector Cortright feels that his reputation would be just as safe outside of the Police Department.
